Description:
Protex is a range of chemically formulated products for use in wet central heating systems. They are designed to combat the problems of corrosion, scaling and sludge inherent in central heating systems.
As a result of corrosion dense deposits of black oxide sludge forms in areas of low flow within the system, it hardens to scale which contributes to even lower flow. Protex Universal Cleanser will cleanse, de-sludge and de-scale the system. It is also an excellent pre-commission cleaner which will remove flux residues within the system. Protex Universal Cleaner contains buffered neutralising agents to clean corrosive flux residues and effectively cleanses the system prior to commissioning. This product has been independently tested in accordance with B.S. 6471 by a NAMAS accredited laboratory.

Application:
Protex Universal Cleanser is a chemically formulated product for the use in wet central heating systems. It offers extended protection against corrosion, scale build up, boiler noise and hydrogen gassing when introduced to a thoroughly cleaned system. It is suitable for all mixed metal systems including those containing aluminium elements.
The recommended in-use concentration of the product is 1%. 1 Litre of Protex Universal Cleanser is all that is required to treat a typical 100L domestic central heating system. For larger systems or trade applications 20 Litre drums are also available. Each 1 litre Protex container includes a label to be appropriately located advising the CH system user that Protex has/is being used in the system. A multiple supply of the same label is supplied with the 20 Litre Protex drum.
Directions for Use:
- Shake container well before use.
- As a pre - commission cleaner: Introduce via the Expansion tank as the system is being filled and circulate for 1 hour with all zone and control valves set to allow circulation through the entire system. The system should then be drained and flushed with clean water before commissioning. Protex Inhibitor should then be added to protect the system.
- To clean an existing system: Remove 2 Litres of water from the system and introduce the Protex Universal cleanser. This is most easily achieved via a radiator or towel rail. Please note; that if the expansion tank is to be used, enough water must be removed from the tank and pipe work to allow the cleanser to enter the circulating part of the system. If using a jet flushing pump, please follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- The system should then be run, preferably at normal operating temperature, with all zone and control valves set to allow circulation through the entire system for a minimum of 2 hours or until satisfactory operation is restored. However, to remove hardened deposits, the time should be extended to 24 hours.
- During the circulation time, if it is noticed that one or two radiators have cold spots, the control valves of all the other radiators should be closed to increase the flow rate through the problem radiators.
- The system should then be drained and flushed with clean water to remove all the loosened debris. Protex Inhibitor must then be introduced with the final fill to give the system long term protection.
- Use the self-adhesive label to record the date of application.
Storage:
The product may be stored at normal ambient temperatures and has a shelf life of not less than 24 months with correct storage.
